The idea for A Chance With You came several years ago from watching the news and witnessing sport celebrities having affairs or children out of wedlock. I wrote a short paragraph on the story and then put it in my think tank folder like I always do. You see, that’s my process. When an idea comes, I might be in the middle of writing another book, so rather than lose it, I lock it a way until I’m ready to write the story.
And as any fan whose read one of my books can tell you, I love damaged characters and breathing new life into them. Both the hero and heroine of A Chance With You, Spencer and Raina are most certainly tortured.
Raina Martin has just lost her sister to cancer and learned she has sole custody of her niece. I relied on my own emotions and pictured myself in such a circumstance should I ever gain custody of my nephew and how I would feel like a fish out of water. I tried to incorporate the feelings of self doubt that would most likely creep in bearing such a huge responsibility on your shoulders. Raina’s anxiety is further heightened because she doesn’t know who Zoe’s father is and she desperately wants Zoe to have a dad since she’s lost her mom. Her quest to find him, leads her straight into the arms of Spencer Davis.
Spencer is still grieving the loss of his brother from a car accident and feels guilty that he survived, but his brother didn’t. Discovering his brother fathered a child is like having a second chance to make things right. Once Raina opens Pandora’s box to find Zoe’s father, Spencer realizes he wants to play a major role in her life. Soon he’s not only intrigued by the twinkle in Zoe’s eye, but by her sexy, feisty aunt and determines to show Raina what a future would look like with him in it.
But like in all my books, the journey to true love never runs smooth. I dabble in big issues of what or who makes a family since Raina and Spencer are not Zoe’s biological parents. Readers will find A Chance With You to be a genuine, emotional roller coaster of a love story. Why? Because Raina and Spencer are an unlikely couple navigating the twist and turns of not only new parenthood, but finding love and I enjoyed the ride with them. I hope you do as well.
Cheers,
Yahrah St John

About the Book
Charismatic caterer Raina Martin knows a lot of things: how to whip up a soufflé, how to throw a party and how to be independent. One thing she doesn’t know is how to be a mother. So when a cruel twist of fate claims her sister’s life and leaves Raina with custody of her six-year-old niece, Zoe, Raina can think of only one place to turn. Zoe’s father has to be out there somewhere, and she intends to find him.
When sexy sports agent Spencer Davis is confronted by the feisty beauty, he is torn. He does not believe he is the father of Raina’s niece. Yet he is reluctant to let the beguiling chef slip away. Soon he and Raina are engaged in a passionate liaison that is both unwise and inevitable. With Zoe’s parentage still in question, Spencer knows their relationship may be short-lived. But his longing for Raina is quickly outweighing his judgment, and he is willing to risk everything on the chance that they might be meant for each other….

I like your process of writing and how you don’t allow an idea to escape you….locking them up for later use is a good idea.

Ideas or inspiration come to me at various times, so it’s important to document me. For example, right now. I have the next two concepts in mind to continue the Harts of Arizaona series with Rylee & Caleb’s books next year. I also have a few other mainstream book ideas that I think would be as funny as my first effort: Dirty Laundry. I love what I do.

Hi Severine,
Wow! Up all night. You must have really liked Playing for Keeps. If you want to read the next books in order, they are: This Time for Real (Malik’s story), If You So Desire (Sage’s story) Two To Tango (Dante’s story). You’ll get to catch up with all your favorite characters throughout the stories. Happy Reading,
Yahrah

Yahrah,
Thanks. I will get them next week. I have a final paper due on Sunday and I have no will power as evident by my staying up late to read Playing for Keeps instead of writing my paper 🙂
