Tell us a little about yourself. My name is Dee Dee M. Scott. I wear many hats. I am a playwright, film Producer, Publisher, author, entrepreneur, philanthropist and business woman.
When you’re not writing, what do you do to relax and have fun? I spend time with my family. We are very close and they are my biggest support system.
What genre(s) do you like to read? I will read any genre as long as the story holds my attention.
When did you begin writing? I have been writing since the age of six. It was something I always did. By the time I was a teenager, I was writing poetry and performing in front of audiences. I wrote my first book after my husband brought me a computer to stop me from taking up space in our closets with the notebooks of stories that I had hand written.
What genre(s) do you write? I write in many different genres but my favorite is psychological thriller/ horror
Tell us about your latest book? My Husband’s Woman is a story about a young, naïve woman named Meshia who becomes involved with Byron, a married attorney eighteen years her senior. The affair causes his wife Alexandra to slowly break down and both Meshia and Byron find themselves in a position that they never saw coming.
Are you consciously aware of the plot before you begin a novel, or do you discover it as you write? Both. I have the entire story in my head, but the characters surprise me and throw in twist and other exciting events.
Do you tend to base your characters on real people or are they totally from your imagination? They come from my imagination, but they have personalities and flaws like real people do.
Tell us who or what was the inspiration behind your latest book? I wanted to write a story about cheating in a way that it’s never been told before. Usually you see or read stories about the mistress stalking or hurting the wife. I wanted to twist it and write about a wife getting revenge on both the husband and the mistress. The book was well received and I still get emails about the surprise twist I added to the story.
Where can readers purchase your latest book?
What other titles have you written? I wrote ten of my books years ago. I will release them throughout 2013-15
If you could change one thing about your writing career thus far, what would it be? Nothing. Everything good and bad was there so I could learn and grow.
When you were published for the first time, which route did you go – mainstream, small press, vanity published or self-published and why or how did you choose this route? In 2008, I published my own book through my publishing company, Ahsyad Publications. I knew then that I wanted to give other talented authors a chance to have their work published. Now, I have eight gifted authors signed to my label. Each author has a unique writing style and their stories are innovative and fresh. The first author will be released soon. Their books are well-written and will not disappoint!
What advice do you have for aspiring authors? Lose the naysayers. If you have a talent, if you have a dream, surround yourself with like-minded people who will uplift and support you. Negative people are Cancer. They will destroy you and steer you away from your dreams, if you let them. You have to stay free of as much negativity as possible. You also have to study, work hard and stay focused on your path. You can’t drive a car and worry about where the next car is going or you will crash. You have your own road to travel and you have to stay focused on it. Lastly, protect your dreams and surround yourself with people who believe in you and your vision.
What do you have on the burner for the next year? I am working on my first film: Lake House that will be released later in 2013. I will also continue touring with the stage play- My Husband’s Woman. I am also producing two stage plays (Misery Loves Company and All The Bad Man Can Do Is keep The Good One From Coming To You) coming in 2014. I also have eight talented authors signed to my publishing company Ahsyad Publications and some of their books will be released later this year too.
