Meet Author Sasha Campbell

Okay, let’s get this out of the way. We all know that I’m a sucker for a good cover. I don’t even pretend the cover doesn’t matter anymore, and today’s guest Sasha Campbell, author of provocative women’s fiction, has some downright beautiful covers and the stuff between them ain’t too bad either. Her newest novel, Suspicions, will be released in my favorite month, May and I can’t wait to get my copy. Tell us a little about yourself. 
I am a vivacious housewife and a free spirit who isn’t afraid to say what’s on my mind or even better, write about it. Although I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, my background is in adult entertainment. I’m a business woman first, but I know how to get down to business when needed. In other words, I manage the staff but I have no problem slipping on a pair of stilettos and swinging around a pole if duty calls.

Tell us three things few know about you.
Stripping is one. Lol. Let’s see… number two…I was at home practicing a pole dance for my husband’s birthday in five-inch pink stilettos (every housewife should have a pole in her bedroom) when I got the call from Kensington. I was so excited, I twisted my ankle. And last but not least…I can’t sleep unless I have a mint in my mouth. Seriously, I think about that commercial where the couple rolls over and says, “good morning,” to each other then cover their mouths. I refuse to wake up with bad breath.

What genre(s) do you like to read?
I read a little of everything but mysteries are my passion.

What was the last novel you read that you enjoyed and why?
I got a Nook for Christmas and I can’t seem to get enough of downloading books. The last one I read was Kat Martin’s, Rule’s Bride. I love historical romances. The best way to spend a raining Sunday is curled up either with my man or a good book.

When did you begin writing?
I’ve always kept a journal…under lock and key. After eavesdropping on dressing room confessions and hearing wild tales way more appealing than fiction, I decided to tell their stories. 

What genre(s) do you write?
Provocative women’s fiction. I also write erotica under a pseudonym but I’m not ready to reveal that identity just yet.

Where do the concepts for your novels come from?
Most of my story ideas are dressing room and lap dance confessions. You’d be surprised the things a man will tell you when you’re bumping and grinding on his lap in nothing but a g-string.

How long does it typically take you to write a book?
Six months depending on how much attention my husband requires. He turned a stripper into a housewife so I try to write during the day while he’s at work, but at night, this kitty comes out to play.
 
Tell us about your latest book?
My May release is entitled Suspicions. As the owner of Situations, the hottest beauty salon on the south side of Chicago, Noelle Gordon has a direct line to the private lives of her clients. But when an abandoned baby girl appears on her doorstep, Noelle finds herself at the center of a personal drama. Could the baby be her husband’s? Or maybe her grown son’s? Both men deny it—but Noelle is sure one of them is lying… Meanwhile, Noelle’s employees are discovering that their own romantic relationships harbor a secret or two. The truth isn’t always pretty. But can they find the strength to live with it—and with the men they love?

What other titles have you written?
My debut book Confessions was released in 2010. Nikki Truth has been giving in-your-face relationship advice to her radio listeners for years, now it’s time to walk her talk. Trinette Montgomery loves to indulge in all of life’s pleasures–including the wealthy men of St. Louis whenever her husband’s away. But when the games go too far, Trinette and Nikki stand to lose everything.

If you could change one thing about your writing career thus far, what would it be?
I wouldn’t have waited so long. Writing is like keeping a diary. It’s a way to cleanse the soul and relax my mind. I can’t imagine doing anything else. Well…maybe almost anything.

What do you have on the burner for the next year? What new projects, books, submission, dreams?
I just signed another two-book deal with Kensington, so I’ll be releasing book three, which is tentative titled Scandals in 2012. I plan on dragging readers into my world where the lines of erotic fantasy and everyday reality become a blur.

What would you like readers to learn from your stories?
My books focus on how things from our past can ruin our future if you continue to ignore the issues. I try to insure a message is in every story but at the same time I want to entertain. I’m am entertainer by trade who believes in giving her customers their money’s worth. Lol. Seriously, writing this book was like choreographing a pole dance routine—arousing. I want my customers to feel satisfied. I believe my books will do just that.

What advice would you give aspiring authors?
Do you! Write what you know instead of writing what you’re thinking readers want to read. It’s got to be true to you. Otherwise, it’s going to come across fake. For instance, I can’t write teen literature or Christian fiction because the way I think is way too raw and uncensored, but for others that’s their talent. Just keep it real.
